COMIC-BOOK MOVIES THAT NEED TO HAPPEN (Top 5)

REIGN OF THE GENRE

Long are the days where you get only one comic-book movie every two years. But right now, we are practically getting a new every two months or so. Yes, it might get a little exhausting for many people, but the genre keeps reinventing itself and gives new and fresh air every once in a while: Bryan Singer with X-Men, then Sam Raimi with Spider-Man, Christopher Nolan with The Dark Knight Trilogy, Joss Whedon with The Avengers, Ryan Reynolds knocking it out of his self'-referential park with Deadpool, and so on.

It´s 2016, and both fans and casual moviegoers are open to more comic-book movie experiences (or at least that´s what I think). There have been many projects trying to get the green light and others that didn't deliver for what they promised. Even so, there are MANY STORIES yet to be told, much more than the typical save-the-day-and-defeat-the-enemy-and-save-the-girl film (don't get me wrong, Deadpool is one of the few great exceptions). Speaking of Deadpool, could we get more R-rated movies? Wolverine 3 is on it's way... and it won't be the last of its kind for sure!

5. The Killing Joke

The Joker is arguably the most iconic and compelling villain in the superhero universe. His psychological insanity and rich levels of character complexity has a created whole cult around him, sometimes getting more loved than his favorite prey, Batman (as much of a Batman fan as I am, Heath Ledger definetely stole the show in The Dark Knight). Now that Suicide Squad is coming right around the corner with Jared Leto as one of the promised scene-stealers as the new Joker, how about adapting his most beloved story? Maybe one of the most cruel and mature stories of The Caped Crusader?

The Killing Joke tells the origin story of the Joker, as he goes more and more insane throughout certain events until the point where he attempts to drive Jim Gordon mad (interpreted my Gary Oldman in the past) and set the ultimate conflict with Batman. Well, how about a Batman/Joker movie? Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne has proved that he can live up to the expectation and exceed it. Jared Leto looks like the new grand Joker for a new generation. It is rumored that Jena Malone would play Barbara Gordon, and J.K. Simmons will play Jim Gordon. Want to live up to The Dark Knight? Eager to surprise fans and strangers one more time? This is the perfect opportunity!

4. Black Widow

Many people have been outraged by the fact that the feminine presence on superhero movies is still... not quite rich. And I support that idea. They still have the "secondary character" place on each movie (hope Harley Quinn can change that and Wonder Woman in her solo movie), and there´s still one interesting and full of potential character yet to be entirely explored or so: Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

It´s weird how the extremely positive reaction of the audience hasn´t transformed yet into an ongoing Black Widow cinema project! Recently, the Russo brothers had manifested their eagerness to make a whole movie around her. She is getting more AWESOME in each Marvel film (look at her progress since Ironman 2 until Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron, she´s consistently more intriguing). Her story is so tragic and so adult (R-rated would be the right choice in my opinion... bold, but the right one), that she was kind of a villain before. One of the darkest avengers getting her own movie, between the raise of feminine characters on the past few years, such as Katniss and Rey... hell yes, I want that!

3. The Phoenix Saga

I gotta say it: this picture´s mind-blowing, it´s so freaking orgasmic (yes, you have read right). X-Men: The Last Stand was quite disappointing for several reasons, but one of the most fatal mistakes was the poor writing of Jean Grey as The Phoenix. Her character was such a waste in the third installment that it erased the possibility of going on new and fresh directions for the X-Men franchise. Why, Bryan Singer, why did you have to leave?!

Ah... but he came back. With Days of Future Past. The whole timeline has changed. We have a new Jean Grey coming on X-Men: Apocalypse... Phoenix stories after that, possibly? PLEASE?! Jean Grey is a fan-favorite (one of my favorites as well) because of her dangerous but cool powers and her dramatic transformation as a character, having great impact on the X-Men, specially Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Wolverine. The Phoenix could potentailly be the ultimate feminine antagonist by the cruelty of her nature. Now that Deadpool proved that X-Men can go bold and much more grounded than it was, and the next Wolverine movie as... well, not PG-13 anymore, can Jean Grey fortify the adult audience approach once more? Can X-Men, with its complex themes and wondeful characters, be the adult superhero franchise? Don´t underestimate the mutant power!

2. Venom and Carnage

This is quite a risky one, now that we have a new and younger Spidey (Tom Holland) setting up the colorful and bright tone for next Spider-Man movies on the MCU, it would be really strange for studios to go gritty and grim anytime soon with the fan-favorite wall-crawler. You can´t have Venom and Carnage on separate movies away from Peter Parker (Sony, anyone? come on guys, you better than that!).

Let´s say this takes place after Infinity War. Spider-Man is still one of the surviving avengers (assuming that there would be plenty of important character deaths in order to push the universe forward), and he´s quite traumatized by what he has seen so far. A new threat comes along the way. He finds the symbiote as a mysterious failed experiment at... Oscorp maybe (I know, way overutilized). He meets Eddie Brock (Venom) and, meanwhile, he must stop the ultimate serial criminal, Cletus Kasady (Carnage). Things get ugly... and then he must battle against himself.

The symbiote represents the most emotionally gut-wrenching internal battle of Peter Parker, and it could adapt on to screen as one of the most complex and darkest superhero movies by the time. R-rated is Venom´s and Carnage´s nature in the comics because of the brutality and dramatic character changes, and it could set a new exciting direction for Peter and the MCU.

1. Deadpool/Spider-Man Movie

This is the most unlikely of the list to happen because of, you know, beautiful studio relationships and their rights of the characters, but hey! Sony and Marvel has juts made a deal for Spider-Man (yay!). Not impossible a deal between Fox and Marvel, studios who own X-Men and The Avengers respectively, right? How about the most sarcastic, playful and joyful characters of Marvel sharing the same screen?

If Tom Holland nails Spider-Man/Peter Parker, wouldn´t it be the perfect time to have a crossover with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson, who clearly NAILED his character, so we can also have possible movies where X-Men and Avengers interact with each other? IN THE SAME FREAKING UNIVERSE? It sounds crazy, I know. But the main goal? Give us Deadpool and Spidey on the same screen. The interaction on the TV series is hilarious and entertaining to watch, and what better of a crowd-pleaser than this movie? It has to be good though, you can´t make a a movie where they are the protagonists ans they are only joking the whole time.

But well... imagination is the only authentic limit, right? Break the barrier. Keep it cool. Redefine the genre over and over again. It still works on today´s audience!

FIGURITAS!

So! What do you think of this list? Do you agree? Why or why not? Tired of comic-book movies? Only want Star Wars instead? Or open to more movies like this? Any other idea? Leave you comment below!
